Whether your holiday plans involve active outdoor pursuits, touring and sightseeing or simply a relaxed enjoyment of the environment, Kingussie is an ideal base from which to explore the Highlands at all times of the year, whether on foot, by car or on a bike.

For walking and mountaineering, the local area is stunning and world class. Whether you are ice climbing in the Cairngorms, 'bagging' a Munroe or strolling through forest and woodlands, there is something to suit all levels of experience and ability. There are excellent opportunities for road or mountain biking. Wolftrax, (www.laggan.com/wolftrax.htm) one of the best mountain biking locations in Europe, is 20 minutes away in Laggan (next to the Ardverekie estate, aka 'Glenbogle' in 'Monarch of the Glen').

Cairngorm Mountain (www.cairngormmountain.co.uk) is a half hour drive in the opposite direction for skiing and snowboarding. Sailing and canoeing are available at Loch Insh and Loch Morlich with full equipment hire and tuition if required or if you'd rather, you can fish the Spey. For something a little more leisurely, Kingussie Golf Course is a 5 minute walk from Clifton or indeed the Insh Marshes RSPB reserve and the Badenoch Way is a 15 minute walk just beyond Ruthven Barracks.

A little further a field, Inverness and the Black Isle are a 45 minute drive North on the A9. Loch Ness is a 20min drive south from there. Alternatively, Perth is 1 hour and  20 minutes south on the A9 via Blair Atholl, the Bruar Falls and Pitlochry. For access to the West Coast, Fort William lies 1 hour and 10 minutes away via Newtonmore, Laggan and Spean Bridge.

For information on Kingussie, the surrounding areas and travel options for getting here, visit the community website www.kingussie.co.uk. As you will see you do not need a car in order to holiday here. There is a train station in the village, which we can collect you from, which lies on the Inverness - Edinburgh / Glasgow line and there is even a direct sleeper from Euston. Direct flights to Inverness airport now leave Gatwick, Stanstead, Bristol, Birmingham and Dublin. We can arrange transport to and from walking or cycling destinations and the facilities in the village mean you are not required to travel far to eat out or shop.
